SeaStock’s AlgaToro™ Japan Expansion Featured by The Fish Site

The Fish Site has featured SeaStock’s partnership with Marubeni Innovexis and plans to introduce AlgaToro™ to Japan’s livestock market, supporting methane reduction and international expansion.

SeaStock’s expansion into Japan has been featured by leading international aquaculture publication The Fish Site, following the announcement of our strategic partnership with Marubeni Innovexis Corporation.

The feature, “Western Australian algae technology eyes Japan”, highlights SeaStock’s plans to introduce AlgaToro™ into the Japanese livestock sector and the growing international opportunity for Western Australian marine science and Asparagopsis-derived technologies.

The coverage follows SeaStock’s recently announced Strategic Partnership Agreement with Marubeni Innovexis, a Marubeni Group company. Through the partnership, the two organisations will combine SeaStock’s expertise in the cultivation, processing and commercial development of Asparagopsis with Marubeni Innovexis’ established customer networks and commercial capabilities in Japan.

A key focus will be progressing AlgaToro™ through Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) approval process, while also developing commercial sales channels across the country’s livestock and feed industries. The partnership will additionally assess opportunities linked to Japan’s J-Credit Scheme, which now includes a methodology relating to methane-reducing livestock feed additives.

The development represents another important step in SeaStock’s strategy to take its naturally derived Asparagopsis solutions into major international agricultural markets.

SeaStock’s work begins with the cultivation and processing of Asparagopsis taxiformis, a red algae species native to Western Australian waters. Through our cultivation and extraction technology, SeaStock is developing scalable, naturally derived products for industries including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and food and beverage.

The Fish Site also highlighted the broader potential for the partnership to expand beyond Japan, with future opportunities across Southeast Asia and other international markets under consideration.

For SeaStock, the feature provides further recognition of the growing global interest in technologies capable of addressing enteric methane emissions from livestock and supporting the transition towards lower-emission agricultural production.

DR Rob Kinley

Discovered the Asparagopsis Methane Effect

Dr Rob Kinley is an internationally recognised agricultural scientist specialising in the environmental and nutritional aspects of livestock and food production. With a background spanning analytical chemistry, soil science, environmental science and animal biology, Rob has dedicated much of his career to developing practical solutions that improve livestock productivity while reducing agriculture’s environmental impact.

During his time as a Senior Research Scientist and project leader with CSIRO Agriculture and Food, Rob played a pioneering role in the research that identified the extraordinary methane-reducing potential of Asparagopsis seaweed in cattle and sheep. His work helped drive the development and commercialisation of the technology that ultimately became FutureFeed, where he went on to serve as Chief Scientist.

Rob has more than three decades of experience across agricultural research, environmental science and livestock systems in Australia and internationally. He has authored and contributed to numerous scientific studies relating to Asparagopsis and enteric methane reduction and is widely recognised as one of the leading scientific voices in the development of seaweed-based solutions for lower-emission livestock production.
